More Details:
Caine helps an elderly chinese man in a bar against a few thugs who tried to force him and Caine to drink liquor. After Caine decks five of them, the old man is shot dead. The town folk opposed to the chinese miners think Caine is their hired killer. There is a dispute on whose land they are on. The miners get rifles as things escalate out of control. Caine gets involved in the dispute as he tries to bring reason and sanity to both sides.

Richard Hatch of 'BattleStar Gallactica' fame costars.

Interesting quotes:
"I have three treasures which I hold and keep. The first is mercy for from mercy comes courage. The second is frugality from which comes generosity to others. The third is humility for from it comes leadership." - Master Po

"I was taught a good soldier is not violent. A fighter is not angry. A victor is not vengeful." - Caine

"Master, how may I walk a peaceful path, when the world is seldom peaceful?" - young Caine
"Peace lies not in the world...but in the man who walks the path." - Master Po

Cast notes:

continuity mishap:
Master Po plays 'rock, paper, scissors' with Caine to illustrate a point, but I doubt 19th century chinese knew of such an American child's game.

Then again, this page suggests it might have originated in feudal Japan.

On the contrary. Rock/Scissors/paper is a very old game.
