More Details:
An Indian boy believes Caine to be his Spirit-helper, and along the way to save his kidnapped mother, they learn from each other. Caine learns new medicine plants, and about the Indian way of life and culture. The boy learns what it is to be a man - and to have more reverence for life.

David Carradines techniques look pretty good in this episode.

Interesting quotes:
"Is the spirit of a man sustained by food or warmed by outer garments?" - Caine

"Is it not better to embrace the living than to avenge the dead?" - Caine
"What is the universe?" - Young Caine
"Rather ask what is not the universe." - Master Kan
"Then it is everywhere." - Caine
"It is in your eye and in your heart. As a seed of the peach contains the fragrance of the flower and the substance of the fruit." - Master Kan
"And the bitter pit at it's core?" - Caine
"Even that." - Master Kan

continuity mishap
1) Caine rock climbs down a steep cliff, but he starts off with his hand wrapped around his back, the next shot has that hand free, but most importantly, he starts off barehanded, but in the following shots of his descent, he is visibly wearing gloves!
2) When Caine tries to sneek away with the mother, he is stopped with a gun pointed to his chest, but the B-shot has the gun in his face.

Cast notes:

  The veggiedude comment...
veggiedude.jpgThe episode explores some Indian wisdom:

There is game! Shall we stop to take food?" - boy
"That is for you to decide." - Caine
"But you must tell me what to do." - boy
"Does a man ask another to show him what to do?" - Caine
"The Comacheros must also take food. We will stop for a short time. What kind of game would you like?" - boy
"I do not want to eat game." - Caine
"But the game here is good. Birds, squirrel, rabbit..." - boy
"It is a personal thing, not to take life." - Caine
[pause] "I too have been told to reverence all life... for there's, as you know - [the] soul - in all things, animals, rocks, trees, wind and rain. Life that is perfect, and more free from the weaknesses of man." - boy
"You have been taught well." - Caine, nodding in agreement.
"And so because man is weak, the great one has made all these things to make him survive." - boy
Caine begins to frown. "I understand your thought" - Caine
"I understand yours too, Spirit Helper... You are a Spirit, and do not have the needs of a mortal." - boy
Caine frowns again.
"We will take other things from nature." - boy
