Synopsis (from DVD)
Caine finds work with a widowed ranch woman.. and also finds he has romantic feelings for her. But the arrival of a bounty hunter and the likelihood that others will follow cast an ominous shadow on love.

John Saxon plays the bounty hunter. At about this time, Saxon was in Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon' where he displayed his karate skills. Here, however, he does little of his own stunts, and it is obvious the man being thrown around is a double.

More Details:

Caine comes across a boy, the sole survivor of an apparent indian ambush. He takes the boy in search of a nearest relative.

Caine watches on as the boy shoots a rabbit for food. He does not try to stop. He remembers in a flashback Master Kan explaining these words:

"Life sustains life and all living creatures need nourishment. Yet, with wisdom the body learns to sustain in ways that all may live" - Master Kan

As the boy cooks the rabbit on the fire, two strangers arrive. They take some of the food, and go through Caines bag. Caine does not resist. The boy loses respect for his new friend at the sight of this.

"Seek rather not to contend. When there is no contention, there is neither victory or defeat." - Master Kan

Cast notes:

continuity mishap:
The bounty hunter throws chain cuffs between Caines legs and tells him to put them on his feet. They are in front of Caine, but in the next shot Caine is reaching through his legs to get the chains that are slightly behind him.

  The veggiedude comment...
veggiedude.jpgIn town, Caine explains to the boy he had nothing to lose from the two men. "Your food!" exclaims the boy, "I do not eat meat," replies Caine.

Later on, when Caine and the boy have bonded, the boy becomes vegetarian, telling the ranch woman he does not eat meat.

This is one of the better episodes. Casting is well done, there are some good fight scenes, and the story is moving. Nice introduction to the series.
