More Details:
Caine finds the ways of the Hutterites are strange. They are offended by hearing him sing while he cuts a log. "Work is part of suffering of life, and suffering tempers the soul," he is told. But Caine remembers that while he himself was brought up in a strict discipline, the purpose of discipline is to enhance life, not deprive it.

Interesting quotes:
"If your sheep are no danger, will you not defend yourself?" - Caine asks of the Hoots.
"If a man strikes me with a stick, I have three choices; I can strike him back, I can stand still and be injured or killed, or I can walk away."
"There is another choice... you can take the stick away from him." - Caine

"Master, I am puzzled" - Caine
"That is the beginning of wisdom" - Master Po

"The purpose of discipline is to live more fully, not less" - Master Po

"It is written, 'Shape clay into a vessel, it is the space within that gives it value. Place doors and windows in a house, it is the opening that brings light within. Set spokes within a wheel, it is the emptiness of the hub that makes them useful.' Therefore be the space at the center. Be nothing and you will have everything to give to others." - Master Po

"All creatures - the low and the high - are one with nature. No life is insignificant. If we have the wisdom to learn, all may teach us their virtues.... Life sustains life and all living creatures need nourishment. Yet, with wisdom the body learns to sustain in ways that all may live."
