More Details:
This story revolves around the quote "If I don't have a right to vengeance, who does?" At the end of the episode, Caine answers "No one."

Other notable quotes:
"I know about 'war.' It is a word men use to clothe the nakedness of their killing." - Caine

"Before we wake, we cannot know that what we dreamed does not exist. Before we die we cannot know that death is not the greatest joy." - Caine

"To hate is like drinking salt water. The thirst grows worst." - Caine

Cast notes:

continuity mishap:
All simple editing errors - Caine begins to sniff the medicine but the cut away shot has him holding the medicine away. In the flashback, Lin Wu is defeated and looks to his left, but the cutaway shot has him looking directly at Caine.

  The veggiedude comment...
veggiedude.jpgIn the flashback, the young Caine is taught "All life is sacred".

This could be interpreted as a "pro-life" episode, because even though the woman was raped and hates her baby, Caine tells her that the baby is innocent and deserves to live.

However, a 'pro-choicer' would say that the woman did choose to deliver the baby - no one forced her to make that decision.

A very good message. Should be required viewing for all the "revenge nuts" out there. Revenge does not equal justice.

The revenge storyline is good, but Caine is almost laughable with some of his comments like when the woman is in great pain and he says "Get in touch with what you feel". He sounds like a bad psychology book.

I bought seasons 1, 2, and 3 on DVD and began watching with my wife. This episode almost made us give up watching. It is depressing. Caine stands by helplessly reciting platitudes while the other characters suffer disasters and catastrophes. Caine does not actually help anyone. Also there are no good fight scenes. Skip this and go on to good episodes instead.
