More Details:
Four brothers pick a brawl with a Texas Ranger and Caine, and one of them dies while climbing up a wall to get a gun. The brothers blame the death on both Caine and the Ranger, and both face murder charges.

This episode explores the nature of law, and whether one should blindly follow the 'letter of the law' rather than observing the 'spirit of the law.'

Interesting quotes:

"Strengthen the discipline of the spirit by purifying the body." - Master Kan

"You must assist the law to serve justice." - Master Kan

Cast notes:

  The veggiedude comment...
veggiedude.jpgIn the flashback, Caine recalls when as a young boy, he witnessed another boy break Master Kan's law about eating during a period of fast. He specifically told them not to touch the plum tree, yet his friend on two occasions took a plum.

He later learns that the boy was only using the plum to try nurse a sick pigeon back to health. When Master Kan finds out, he apologized to both boys for doing the greater wrong "by only leading you to abide by the letter of the law, and not respect its meaning."
